OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Omaha police said that the man suspected of having committed an assault had left a 24-year-old woman burned, bruised and beaten had already been sentenced for assault.
The officers look for Christopher Rogers, 45, in connection with a reported assault around 17:30. Monday in an apartment north of Park Avenue and Pacific Street.
Police reports indicate that a woman was found on the spot and was suffering from several burns, bruises, stab wounds, swelling and chipped teeth. The investigators also indicated that she had been held captive.
She was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center for treatment in critical condition, but was taken to a burn treatment unit in Lincoln. Authorities announced Tuesday that she should recover.
According to OPD, a file audit revealed that Rogers had already been convicted twice for sexual assault.
6 News looked for previous convictions. Rogers has been charged with domestic assault in 2014 and 2017.
In 2014, Rogers did not plead any dispute and was sentenced to 20 months to five years in jail. In 2017, he pleaded not guilty, but a judge found him guilty and sentenced him to one year in prison.
6 News briefly spoke to the victim's mother, who was visiting him at the Lincoln Hospital. No update on his condition has been given, however.
