Local non-profit organizations could be affected by the government. to close

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI / KIDK) – The partial closure of the federal government is reaching non-profit organizations across the country, including right here in Idaho Falls.

"It could affect us at all levels," said Jay Doman, CEO of the Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership.

The Idaho Falls Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership includes several programs including Family Services, Head Start and Housing. About 70 to 75% of this amount is funded by the federal government.

"Our organization relies almost entirely on repayment," said Doman. "Thus, our housing, housing assistance payments we receive, are delayed. Our Head Start program, our federally funded CSBG programs, we must show that we spent these funds before we pay . "

Doman said the organization was hoping that the partial stop would not last throughout the normal repayment cycle.

"If this continues and we have government employees who would normally process our payments without being able to do so because they are on leave, this will obviously delay our ability to pay the vendors, employees and those to whom we owe of money. "Doman said.

EICAP currently has a rainy day fund that manages it until closing, but if the closure lasts until the end of January, EICAP could be in trouble.

"Then we will probably have to start liquidating our long-term investments, among other things, to keep the doors open," Doman said. "And at that point, it would be up to the board to decide whether we will start firing our own employees and reduce services, or whether we will use these investments in the hope that the federal government will pay us back quickly."

EICAP says that people do not need to worry for the moment, but that it may take some serious talks in the next two or three weeks if the government does not have the ## 147 ## ### ############################################################################ 39; is not reopened completely.
